another sleepless night...

I'm not sure how many of you mommies are having this problem but my kid now does NOT sleep through the night (STTN). He sleeps at best, 4 hour stretches. He used to be SUCH a good sleeper and I had NO complaints! Now, he wakes up every 2-3 hours and one night it was every hour! Holy ca-schmoly... It is driving both me and E insane. It started right around 5 months and now that he's 7.5 months, there is no sign of it getting any better. I'm so reluctant to let him cry it out (CIO) because I cannot STAND the crying. It grates my nerves, it breaks my heart. Although I'm sure if I did let him CIO, he'd probably STTN because he'd wear himself out! LOL!!! Anyway, just had to vent - if any of you mommies have any tips, please share! :)))

Here's what he should be doing at night... LOL!!!

4 Oohs & Ahhs...:

How many naps is he taking a day? Maybe try to only let him sleep like 2 hours at a time? I used to do that with Emma and now she is on a great schedule and sleeps through the night.

Another thing I've noticed works is a routine. Try to let your nanny know that she needs to stick to a routine when you are gone. Same time naps, same time feedings, etc.

Emma was having this problem around 3 months old and this is what I did. Of course it doesn't work for everyone.

For us, we had to let Riley make her own schedule. She doesn't need to stick to a routine persay. She naps when she needs to nap. I usually take her out during the day and then at night keep her up for awhile. That tires her out. She sleeps through the night and hasn't had problems with it since about 6 weeks and the week she was teething.

Of course sometimes she'll wake up but we let her CIO. The only thing that bothers me is the crying cause I want to be sleeping but I know she's up for no good reason.

Some babies need a schedule like Nancy was saying. Some babies don't. Maybe N needs more structure? And maybe you'll need to try the CIO method. He's old enough and it was created to help babies sleep through the night.

My baby started sleeping through the night around 6 weeks but she went through a period where she was up a lot in the night. It could be teething or a growth spurt. When they wake up in the middle of the night I try a soother first and if that doesn't work I quickly feed them and put them back to bed.

We do some cio at around 6 months. Then they can learn to put themselves back to sleep.

My son started waking up almost hourly at 7 months old- i think it was a combo of teething and separation anxiety. he's still waking at night but not as bad (11 months old now). we tried some modified cio, but no luck, then I started letting him cosleep and we all get a whole solid night's sleep that way. just remember this too shall pass, they are only babies for such a short part of their life and i can assure you he won't be waking up constantly forever! :)
